Childline

Childline works for the protection of rights of children aged from 0 to 18 years special focus is on all children in need of care and protection. Childline is a project of Ministry of Women and Child Development. Childline India Foundation is a Non- Government Organization in India that operates a telephone helpline called Chidline Helpline #1098, for children in distress.

 

It was India first 24- hour; toll free, phone outreach service for children. Childline was first established as an experimental project in June 1996, by Jeroo Billimoria a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai at the department of Family and child Welfare. Subsequently, Government of India , established the Childline across India in 1998- 1999, under the Ministry of Women and Child Development

 

Childline Churachandpur was inducted on the 15 of May,2018 and official the launching was held on 30 of July 2018. Three local NGOs have been selected for proper implementation of Childline 1098 services in the District namely Rural Aid Service (RAS) , Action for Women and Child Advancement (AWCA) and Society for Human Action and Rural Empowerment (SHARE) as the Sub-centres respectively. There is 1 Co-Coordinator, 1 counselor, 6 Team Member and 1 volunteer at RAS.

Community Awareness Programme

Childline conducted 12 community awareness programme at 12 villages following a strict SOP guidelines. Due to Pandemic in which statewide lockdown was announced, numerous awareness programs wasn’t conducted. Awareness on COVID19 at Community level was also conducted St. Kullian Village, Charuikhullen, Tokpakhunou, T. Phaijang Village in collaboration with the Health department. Awareness on COVID – 19 SOP was also conducted at Mini Secretariat ,Churachanpur Block A and B Quarantine Centre.

Outreach of Childline

The purpose of outreach is to make people aware of Childline and its services for children in need of care and protection. It is conducted through door-to-door awareness, small groups individuals and even in markets, stations etc. With a target of 460hrs of outreach per month, Childline Churachandpur conducted 6,525 Hours of outreach during 2020-2021 financial year.
